N1 Visual are celebrating after the judges crowned them "Small sign maker of the year 2016" at the British Sign Awards.

N1 had already made it onto the shortlist for the Retail prize, but in addition submitted a range of projects that they had completed over the past year – ranging from internal and external signs and graphic displays to vehicle wraps.

The Event of the Year British Sign Awards 2016
The gala awards presentation ceremony, held at the East Midlands Conference Centre on the campus of Nottingham University on Thursday, November 3rd, proved to be a huge success.
“While the purpose of the ceremony is primarily to celebrate the outstanding work of British sign makers, the event also brings the whole industry together in a unique atmosphere. There really is nothing else quite like it,” said BSGA Director David Catanach. “Signmakers and industry suppliers gather in a relaxed, if fairly competitive, atmosphere, and are able to see the fantastic fruits of their joint labours.”

The event, attended by some 320 people this year, kicked off with a reception, featuring the Sponsors Showcase, followed by a four course lunch. “It’s a business with a difference,” said David Catanach. “There’s no hard-selling, but it is probably the best networking event for the sign industry all year.”
Following lunch, the audience was regaled by Broadcaster Bill Turnbull with tales of his time on the BBC Breakfast sofa and, in particular, with accounts of how the occasional slip of the tongue can lead to headlines across the globe.
Bill, aided by David Catanach, also guided the audience through the awards and when it came to the Wrap of the Year, he had a special treat in store. He had created and performed a special freestyle Sign Awards rap, complete with beat box accompaniment – much to the delight of the crowd.
It was, of course, the awards themselves that took centre stage. “This was the third year for the awards and the standard of entries just keeps rising,” said David Catanach. “This year we had some really remarkable entries that showed the incredible skills our industry has to offer.
“Sign making is an industry that serves commerce, but some of projects put forward this year would not be out-of-place in the Tate.”
