What design software to use and what file types are good for print?

There are many different design programs or software packages available for you to use when creating vehicle graphics or fleet livery designs. The most popular are Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and CorelDraw.

So which one should you use?

Normally your graphics company will require vector files to produce your graphics.

When creating vector images or lettering for a CAD cut graphics you really need to stick with Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw.

Adobe Photoshop is ideal for creating realistic vehicle printed wraps and we use it only for editing photos.

Can I use google images for my vehicle branding?

No. You can't use images from google search. There are a few reasons for this.

90% of google images will have copy right and you can get in to trouble using them. They even belong to your competitors.

Secondly nearly all of them are not suitable for a large format printing. Simply because of a bad quality. Images uploaded to the internet are low resolution so that web pages load faster.

They are too small for printing purposes and if you re-size them they will become extremely pixelated.

Where can you get good quality images?

  1. You can buy it from online subscription services that sell hi res images that are free from copyright. There are thousands of photos to choose from. (We have our own subscription and can source these images for you.)

  2. Grab a decent camera and take pictures yourself or even hire a professional photographer.

Vehicle templates and outline drawings.

Vehicle templates are used when it comes to designing vehicle graphics or fleet branding.

The outlines we use are 1:1 scale so no need to worry about measuring your vehicle. We can then use these to show you how your design will look like on the vehicle.

*If you don't have a template, we can source this for you!

Your Logo and fonts

"Can you use the logo from my website?" - Unfortunately, this will not work.

Your logo file must be a vector so it could be scaled without loss of quality. We can re-draw your logo for you, but this would carry an additional design charge.

Also by providing the font names is of massive benefit. This ensures brand consistency and It is a HUGE time saver

TOP TIPS when creating your designs for vehicle graphics or fleet livery.

The main goal is for brand recognition and marketing purposes. You want people to notice your vehicle and remember your business offering.

Ideally you want them to take pictures of your company vehicle, so they can contact you at a later date.

Whether you are sitting in a traffic or parked up at your local supermarket.

How do I achieve these results?

Your vehicle needs to be eye-catching! With good quality graphics, prints or vinyl wraps. The design needs to be clean and easy to read. Perhaps using a bold or striking image on the side of your vehicle.

Showcase your company name, services or the product you offer.

This will get you noticed for the right reasons.

Now that you have got their attention, you need to clearly communicate your offering and provide a strong "call to action".

We always recommend to limit your secondary information (such as your sub services) to a maximum of 5 bullet points.

Less is more! This will make it easier for people to remember your "offering" and easier to read your mobile advertisement.

Only use a maximum of 3 colours or fonts for your text and information. Using too many can make it difficult for the customer to focus when reading.
